As of February 2026, Chirag Ghanshyam Goti is in police custody, marking the end of a long investigation into one of Surat’s most notorious groups. Goti is facing serious charges, mainly for a plan to frame a friend with illegal drugs (under the NDPS Act). He is also charged with kidnapping, a ₹50 lakh extortion case, and using illegal guns. The gang he led was a family business that included his brother, Nirant Goti, and his father, Ghanshyam Goti, along with helpers like Yuvraj Jadav and Mohammed Hamza. Much of the evidence against him comes from phone records (CDR) and shocking videos of him hurting people that went viral.

Surat is famous for diamonds and cloth. But recently, a darker story has come out about the oil business. This is where Chirag Goti, a wealthy oil trader from the Katargam and Singanpor areas, built a group that used fear to get its way. His story shows how a rich businessman turned into a gang leader who used drugs and scary videos to control people.

Who is he?

Chirag Goti was not a typical street criminal. He was a very rich man from a well-known family in Katargam. This area is home to many successful business owners. Goti was known as a big oil trader with a company that reportedly handled about ₹100 crore a year.

His gang was mostly his own family members. His brother, Nirant Goti, was his main helper. His father, Ghanshyam Goti, also helped protect him and helped scare their business rivals . They also had enforcers like Yuvraj Jadav, who was known for carrying guns and threatening people, and Mohammed Hamza, who helped with the group’s plans . The group used two things to stay in power: their massive wealth and their ability to make everyone in the neighbourhood afraid.

The Plan to Frame His Friend

The biggest mistake Goti made came from a fight with his old business partner, Alpesh Miyani. They used to run an oil company together until things went wrong.

Why they fought ?

In December 2024, government tax officers (GST) raided their company . The officers locked up their oil because they found problems with the taxes. This caused the two partners to split up. Goti was very angry and blamed Miyani for the trouble. He didn’t just want his money; he wanted to destroy Miyani’s life by sending him to jail for a long time.

The Drug Trap

About 10 months ago, Goti came up with a plan to use India’s strict drug laws against Miyani. He knew that if someone is caught with a lot of drugs, it is almost impossible for them to get out of jail.

Goti’s brother and another helper bought 70 grams of a drug called “MD” or “mephedrone” from a dealer named Safwan Mewawala. This drug was worth about ₹7.87 lakh. They hid the drugs in Miyani’s car while it was parked near Ved Road.

Then, Goti did something very bold: he called the police himself. He pretended to be an “anonymous” caller and told them exactly where the car was and that there were drugs inside. The police found the drugs and arrested Miyani. At first, it looked like Goti’s plan had worked perfectly.

How he got caught

The plan failed because the Surat Police (SOG) were very smart. They noticed that the “tip” they received was a bit too perfect and started to get suspicious. They checked the phone records of everyone involved and found that the caller was actually connected to Goti’s group. Later, the drug seller, Safwan Mewawala, was caught and admitted that Goti’s family were the ones who actually bought the drugs from him.

Eight Months on the Run

When Goti realized the police had figured out the truth, he ran away. He fled to Nepal, crossing the border to hide. He stayed in Nepal for eight months. He wasn’t living in a cave; he used his wealth to stay in different fancy hotels. He kept moving from place to place to make sure the police couldn’t find him.

The Supreme Court Order

While he was hiding, his lawyers tried to get him “anticipatory bail” (permission to stay out of jail). Every court in Gujarat said “no” because the crime was so serious.

Finally, the case went to the Supreme Court of India. The judges were very upset that Goti had been hiding for eight months while he was “wanted” . They ordered him to surrender within two weeks. With no other options, Goti came back to Surat and gave himself up to the court on February 9, 2026.

The Secrets Come Out

As soon as Goti was behind bars, the people of Surat stopped being afraid. Many victims finally came forward to tell the police what he had done to them.

The Scary Videos

People showed the police videos of Goti and his gang acting like “Taliban” leaders. These videos, which Goti had shared to scare people into paying him, showed:

  • Goti stripping people and beating them with sticks in his office .
  • Goti firing guns into the air during festivals to show he was the boss .
  • Goti using guns to threaten people into giving him their land.

One victim, Parth Miyani, reported that Goti beat him very badly and filmed it to shame him.

Demanding Money

More people reported that Goti had stolen huge amounts of money from them:

  • Prabhat Vyas: Goti demanded ₹50 lakh from him at gunpoint for land that Vyas already owned . Vyas ended up paying ₹42 lakh in cash and diamonds worth nearly ₹5 lakh.
  • Jignesh Vyas: He said Goti kidnapped him and took him to his house, where Goti’s whole family helped beat him up. They took ₹10 lakh and demanded ₹2 lakh every month as “protection” money.

The Public Parade (February 16, 2026)

On February 16, the police took Goti back to the streets of Singanpor to show how he did his crimes . This is called a “reconstruction.”

A huge crowd of more than 2,000 people showed up . They weren’t there to just watch; they were angry. They shouted at him and demanded he be hanged . Some people even managed to pull at his clothes and throw slippers at him . The man who used to make everyone afraid was now being publicly shamed by the whole neighborhood.

Impact on Society

This case has also caused a major political argument. Photos have come out showing Goti with local leaders, like MLA Vinu Moradiya .

The Prajapati community and other local groups are asking how a known criminal could be seen with powerful politicians . They believe these connections helped Goti stay out of trouble for so long . While the politicians have said they do not support criminals, the public is still very angry.

The Final Lesson

The story of Chirag Goti is a lesson about what happens when someone thinks their money makes them more powerful than the law. Goti was so overconfident that he tried to use the police as a weapon to frame his friend. He even filmed his own crimes because he thought nobody could touch him. In the end, his own arrogance and the bravery of his victims brought him down. He now has more than 10 criminal cases against him and faces many years in jail.
